I attended a stake holders meeting (2/3/2009) that was run by Sharon Zadra, Ward 2 City Council representative.  In attendance were families, police officers and other city officials. 

Here, I learned about the CRIME FREE MULTI-HOUSING PROGRAM, (contact Kellie Fox, RPD, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) sponsored by the Reno Police Department.  This program trains and shows how property owner/management can use the law and codes to eliminate the crimes in their building.  Time and time again, a vacant apartment is more profitable in the long for everyone, than renting to drug dealer, prostitutes or other known crime activity. 

Upon completion of the program the property owners will receive a sign and permission to use the CRIME FREE MULTI-HOUSING logo in all their advertisements.  Do you think this adds value to your real estate?

The goal of the stake holders' meeting was to get feedback and measure the effects of new lighting in Yori Park and new sidewalks installed on Linden Street, as well as community interest generated from the Kick Off Picnic and Trash Pick up day. The results are a start.  Many of the lights have been vandalized, so the city is looking to get better quality lights.  Though there is still challenges in the area, one idea, is to provide a community soccer league to bring the community together and give the kids something to do, add some more lighting and keep the lines of communication open.
